Internship Reflection
End of Semester/Internship Reflection
My internship at IU Health Lifeline was a meaningful and valuable experience that gave me a realistic view of what working in emergency medical services truly involves. Being able to observe nurses, paramedics, and EMTs during ride-outs allowed me to see firsthand how fast-paced and unpredictable the job can be, while also showing me how important teamwork, communication, and quick decision-making is in emergency situations. This experience helped me understand that being a paramedic requires not only medical knowledge and skill, but also the ability to stay calm under pressure and respond professionally in stressful environments.
Throughout the internship, I learned how much effort goes into keeping an organization running smoothly behind the scenes. I gained insight into the different roles that support emergency and medical transport operations and how each person plays an important part in ensuring patient safety and quality care. I also learned more about IU Health Lifeline’s organizational values and standards, which showed me the importance of professionalism, accountability, and trust in healthcare. Overall, this internship strengthened my passion for becoming a paramedic and confirmed that this is the career path I want to pursue. It was eye-opening, challenging at times, but also inspiring to see how rewarding this work can be and the difference it makes in patients’ lives.
